My weekend in food

Hello there. It’s been a while since I last wrote. I feel like I haven’t had much to share. My time is now pretty divided. Work is getting busier and I’m enjoying blogging and podcasting Medical Fun Facts.

This weekend was pretty quiet for me. On Friday I had a good day at the hospital and ate a simple dinner of bacon with avocado on toast.

On Saturday morning I decided to make a grilled cheese toastie with bacon.

This will soon have #bacon added

Before I started grocery shopping I had a double shot latte to get me going.

For lunch, I had a pulled pork burrito with guacamole, sour cream, jalapeño peppers and salsa from Guzman Y Gomez. It was huge. It’s a good thing I have a big mouth. I needed two hands to hold it.

For dinner, on Saturday night I made a light meal. A prawn salad.

I slept well Saturday night and woke up thinking I’d poach an egg and have some bacon. Sadly, I fail at poaching eggs.

I went for a walk. I love the coloured buoys at Yerra Beach on Lake Ginninderra.

For lunch, I made myself a mango salad.

And, finally, for Sunday dinner, I made a chicken schnitzel cheeseburger. It was delicious.

Parting words

I regularly post photographs of food to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Please feel free to connect with me on any social media platform.
I also have a podcast. It’s not food related but each show is short and it’s named Medical Fun Facts. You can find it in the iTunes podcast store as well as Stitcher. A show drops every Monday and Tuesday. It has a little cynicism, a little scepticism and occasionally some sarcasm.

  1. A very diverse array of meals for our weekend, Gary. Yummy. I really enjoyed the IG video of putting the cheeseburger together – you make cooking it look easy…which actually, it is but a lot of us are too lazy to see that 😂

As I mentioned on IG, look at that dripping cheese off that toast. It made me think of the small slab white pearl cheese I bought from Coles on Friday and used it on my ham-cheese toastie for weekend breakfast – very creamy, buttery-like, just the way I like my cheese 😋 Also your IG food photos always remind me of how late I sleep in on the weekend…lazing in my own bed and Gary is already cooking up a storm 😄

Good luck with work, writing, cooking, photography and podcast. Trust you plan well to achieve well. The year is officially in full swing and time to look ahead and better ourselves. Let’s hope the work week isn’t too insanely busy 😊😊😊

    1. Hi there Mabel,
Thank you for the kind words.
This week should be a good one.
I’m a big fan of cheese toasted sandwiches.
I think one of the best things I’ve learnt is to use a variety of different breads, I do the like Helgas pumpkin seed bread. I like to put some olive oil in a warm to hot pan and then coat one side of the bread. Then remove the bread and dress it with Dijon or mayo or any spread you like, even butter. Then cheese to both sides. Put the bread back into the pan oil side down and cook slowly, you don’t want the bread to burn while the cheese melts. When the cheese is soft add the meat and make the sandwich and then cook until the cheese oozes.
      I’m hungry again!
      Have a good week Mabel.

      1. Sounds like a good recipe. Gaz. Thanks for sharing. Cheese to both sides and then back into the pan again – double the crispy and crunchy treat 😀

Keep cooking and looking forward to seeing what you eat this week.

  2. That pulled Pork Burrito and Ginger Beer is to die for!! Would love, love to try the Cheeseburger Schnitzel. Love your blog!!
