What I ate this week

Monday

I like the fact in Canberra we have taxpayer funded public art and street art all in the one place. I just wonder when what locals are calling the “Woden ghetto sans people” will undergo development.

Back to my usual routine of salmon on a Monday. In the new year, I bought myself a Tefal portable induction hob. It was fantastic. An induction hob is great for making crispy skin salmon.

Tuesday

It’s getting cool again in Canberra. I miss Summer. The Woden wind tunnel is very fresh in the morning as I go to get my mail.

I was involved in some group work and someone brought some TimTams. You’ve got to love coworkers who bring TimTams.

Lunch was a cordon bleu from Urban Bean. It was good. I like adding cheese and ham to most things 🤣

Dinner was again crispy skin salmon.

Wednesday

It’s hump day and I still wonder if this is the only “sign” of construction the Woden ghetto sans people will see in the foreseeable future.

Urban Bean did a special mushroom burger lunch. No bread, just these huge Portobello mushrooms instead of a bun. It was delicious, especially with the beetroot.

Dinner was Wednesday chicken, namely, broccoli and spicy cheesy chicken wings on oven fried bread.

Thursday

Payday, you’ve got to love payday. I love payday. I often buy the lunch special from Urban Bean on pay day. The special was Beef Wellington with truffle mash, broccolini and mushroom jus.

Dinner was a simple meat-free quinoa rice and vegetables because I’d eaten so much during the day.

I also decided it was time to change the profile photograph I was using on my non-food related social media like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. I’m so grateful I can connect my camera with my iPhone. Yes, it’s been edited to smooth out my skin a little.

Friday

For a bit of a change, rather than going to the staff tuck shop, I went to the Zouki café with a colleague for lunch. I had a chicken schnitzel wrap. It was quite filling.

On Friday afternoon, I looked up the salmonellosis rates for the ACT given recent outbreaks and was surprised.

Friday saw round two of the NRL with the highlight being Friday night’s game between the Brisbane Broncos and the North Queensland Cowboys.

I decided to make a bowl of cheerios and cheesy potato gems with ETA barbeque sauce. As much as I enjoyed the meal, my team, the Brisbane Broncos lost in golden point extra time. It was just like a finals game. It was so exciting.

Final words

I ate well on the weekend too, but I’ve put enough photographs in this post. Have a good weekend. Catch you later.

  1. Well you answered the question I was going to ask about the cheerios…never would have guessed it was the franks. Nice photo…don’t you wish we could erase the little lines that easily in real life? 😀

  2. Full-on food post, Gaz. Now that portobello bun mushroom burger is something. As a mushroom lover, I would love to try that. But what on earth are the red slices? Beetroot? Cranberry? If so… 🙁 I am not a fan of it at all as I find it makes my food too sweet for my liking.

Where are the cheerios? Hiding underneath the cheesy gems?

Very good with the headshot and new profile pic. Very smooth and seamless. You have to teach me how to do that at some point 😀

Wishing Canberra a last blast of warm weather before winter truly sets in. We are in for a summer-like week ahead with temps hovering around 30’C and more. Such a treat this time of the year 🙂

    1. Hi there Mabel, for some reason this comment was in my spam collection (which I never check, perhaps I should). Thanks for asking if I’d seen your comment.
The portobello mushroom burger was great but it was really heavy. Those mushrooms had absorbed a lot of liquid. The beetroot was really nice, it wasn’t sweet, it was freshly roasted. But then I suppose, beetroot is naturally sweet.
Haha, the cheerios are the red sausages. Queenslanders, at least south-east Queenslanders call what most people call cocktail frankfurts, cheerios. I never call them little boys. It boggles my mind that people want to equate small red cylinders as penises 🤣
The headshot was down with my Sony mirrorless camera, I use the smartphone app to focus and shoot. I can alter the aperture, shutter speed and ISO from the app. In Adobe Lightroom I use whatever plugins I have to try to smooth out the skin and I use the spot healing brush to get rid of some marks. Vanity I know, but that’s the great thing about software.
This week has been reasonable with a couple of days getting up to 29 °C and only a couple of evenings have been <10 °C.
Again, thanks for reaching out. I would never have known unless you contacted me.

    2. Bit disappointing to hear the mushrooms were heavy. Not how I like them at all 😞 Now you make me wonder if mushrooms are really designed to absorb liquid. I usually like my mushrooms sliced so never really noticed.

It is a very natural look you gave yourself, Gaz. You could make a name for photography for yourself if you wanted too 😅

I am dreading those nights that are 10’C or less and am hoping this summer spell continues for Melbourne.

You know you want to make a comment. Do it.
