Baby asparagus #aussiespears all gone

After receiving my package of fresh #aussiespears last week from the Australian Asparagus Council I finished the last bundle of Baby asparagus tonight. It was sad to say goodbye to my #aussiespears. I enjoyed them so much. I left a bundle of baby spears for the last hurrah.

Chicken giblet congee and how I spent Sunday

Some readers know of my many alter egos. For example, on Friday I posted on my other blog about the limitations of diagnostic tests, especially serology tests. In the past I’ve also posted about offal on Dr Offal. Tonight though I’m posting about giblets here on Yummy Lummy. Possibly my least known blog is the one about odd movies.

I really like giblets. I have happy memories of Mum cooking giblets. On a cold night, Mum’s chicken giblets and steamed rice was really comforting and warming. I would tell people about the meal and I usually received a negative reaction. It’s no surprise when I posted a photograph on social media yesterday about my purchase I received mixed reactions. One of my social media friends compared chicken giblets to cat food. Lucky cats I say.

After breakfast, I called Dad and wished him Happy Father’s day. I went for a walk on the cloudy Sunday morning and shot some photographs.

Asparagus soup and my pee #aussiespears are awesome

I looked back at my Instagram feed since receiving my Australian Asparagus Council asparagus package and noticed I haven’t done anything more than roast or pan-fry my #aussiespears Tonight I made soup. I saw an image on Instagram as I was searching the #aussiespears feed and came across https://instagram.com/p/7M-YMKDvev/ from my friend Lisa.

It also made me think that if I’m going to be cooking two bundles of asparagus I’m going to have wickedly smelling urine tonight.

I looked up a few websites to find an explanation and despite knowing about the phenomenon for centuries, there are no clear cut answers. Some people produce the sulphuric breakdown products and some people can smell them. Some people don’t produce malodorous urine and some people cannot smell the breakdown products.

While some people complain the smell is awful, I’ve never found it objectionable. That’s not to say I find it pleasant. To me it’s like when I smell petroleum products. It’s not a pleasant smell but it’s a compelling smell. The same with glue.

The good thing is sniffing asparagus urine is not dangerous like petrol and glue sniffing. Even better with all the silverbeet I’ve eaten my stools will be tarry black tomorrow.

You can also see #aussiespears on Facebook!

I don’t know what recipe Lisa used so I made one up.

Today’s #aussiespears food adventure

Yesterday I wrote about receiving a box of Australian asparagus from the Australian Asparagus Council. It was a sort of unboxing post like the unboxing YouTube videos of camera equipment I like.

This morning I had tinned spaghetti on toasted rye bread with a couple of baby #aussiespears

For lunch I went to The Tradies at Woden with a mate and enjoyed eating Courtney.

Welcome to spring with Australian asparagus #aussiespears

Through the good services of Bizzy Lizzie who administrates the Canberra Food Bloggers Facebook group some of us elected to receive a gift of fresh asparagus from the Australian Asparagus Council. I received a small box today with half a dozen bunches of asparagus including some baby asparagus.

In the parcel was an ice brick, a new tea towel wrapping the bundles of asparagus and a salad cup. The salad cup was a nice touch. I read the instructions and it’s a little complicated. If I was really into salad and was willing to make a salad dressing it would be a great lunch container. It has inside compartments for salad pieces of different densities. It also has a little sealable cylinder for salad dressing.

I like that there were bunches of baby asparagus too.

I posted a few photographs on Instagram and Facebook using the tag #aussiespears and it was good to check out other recipients social media feeds.

For dinner I made a dish of baked skinless chicken thigh with hot and spicy balsamic asparagus with sweet potato chips and honey steamed vegetables.

Other than the gift of the free asparagus, tea towell and the salad cup I have not been remunerated in any way to write this post.
