Kenny’s Bakery Cafe Collins Street Melbourne

Best breakfast in Melbourne on Collins Street

I recently spent three nights in Melbourne for work. I was staying at the Oaks on Collins Street. I’m not familiar with Melbourne and even though I get to Melbourne for work probably once or twice a year it’s not a city that I take much notice of because I’ve never had to live there. The same applies to Sydney.

My breakfast options consisted of the hotel restaurant or walking around and finding a cafe. I normally wake up between 4.30 and 5 am and after a shower and shave I want to find an early breakfast. Just up the road from the hotel I came across Kenny’s Bakery Cafe. I knew nothing about the Kenny’s chain and just walked in and received a very warm welcome from the ladies inside.

On the first morning I chose a bacon and egg roll and a flat white. The bread was amazing. Even though the eggs were fried soft (not runny) and the bacon was cooked through it was the bread that made me take notice. It wasn’t chewy, it was light fresh and melt in the mouth gorgeous.

On the second morning when I walked in the ladies recognised me and asked if I wanted a bacon and egg roll and a flat white. They remembered me and my order. How remarkable.

On the second and third mornings I chose a Bánh mì with a flat white. The Vietnamese pork roll was delightful. The bread amazing. What a great way to start a day with a spicy chilli refreshing breakfast roll and coffee.
