Since my last post about the crust-free meat mince pizza I’ve been pretty occupied at work and then this weekend has been a combination of going out and eating and today being at work again.

On Wednesday morning I made green eggs and ham

#lunch Green eggs and "ham". I mixed my eggs in my Magic Bullet™ with some feta and parsley. I filled the omelet with a little grated Gruyère cheese and fried pieces of Strasbourg. #yummy

The green came from some parsley I added to the egg before whisking it.

On Wednesday night Bron came over and shared some of your super yummy salted caramel macarons with me

Bron brought over one of her delicious salted caramel macarons #yummy

This was about the best salted caramel macaroni I’ve ever tasted

———-

Bron also brought over some beef pie she’d made

On Thursday morning I had spam and egg

Bacon and onion quiche with a caramel thick shake. The quiche was way too salty. I don’t think I’ll do that again.

On Friday night Bron and I went to see Iron Man 3 in 3D. We enjoyed it.

———-

On Saturday morning we went to the Belconnen Fresh Food Markets to check out some groceries and other things.

#paleo #breakfast not too bad

I had a pale breakfast at Beppe’s Tuscan Kitchen. It was pretty good and filling too. The bacon was a little too salty for my liking and the egg was slightly over cooked.

On Saturday night Bron and I went out with some friends to Chairman and Yip for dinner. This is one of the finest restaurants in Canberra and never fails to please. I’ve reviewed it here a few times. Search Chairman and Yip in Yummy Lummy

I started with stuffed mushrooms

#dinner mushrooms with pesto #yummy

These were stuffed with pesto. Always good.

———-

For a main I asked for pork chops honey gin seng red dates goji berries and then we shared

Bron asked for sea perch and our friends asked for the beef and scallop hot pot plus the caramelised pumpkin and cucumber

#dinner sea perch pork chops and beef hot pot #yummy

It was a lovely plate of flavour

———-

Chairman and Yip is a must do for anyone serious about eating in Canberra. A very worthwhile restaurant to visit.

Dunny rating is 2½ out of 5. If it wasn’t for the Aēsop hand products it would rate 2 out of 5. The urinal plumbing had obvious corrosion. The hand basin was old. The hand dryer was weak and there were no paper towels.

The napkin rating was a pass. They were cloth. Cloth=classy.

———-

For dessert I had a takeaway Tiramisu from Gelato Joe’s

#dessert tiramisu takeaway

It was okay. They ran out of churros so I was disappointed.

———-

To make up for the poor egg experience at Beppe’s Tuscan Kitchen Bron made her fabulous poached eggs

#breakfast perfection with Bron #poached #egg on a #muffin #yummy

Nothing beats Bron’s eggs

———-

I spent today at work. After a weekend away with my kids last weekend and a day off this week because of illness I had a lot of catching up to do.

———-

Tonight I made some pumpkin soup

#dinner Preparing pumpkin soup #yummy

I used onion, ginger, balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, Kent pumpkin, white wine, curry powder and coconut cream

———-

The finished product

#dinner Pumpkin soup with ginger, coconut cream, curry powder with a few other flavours. It was delicious. #superyummy #YummyLummy

I topped the soup with a little parsley, Gruyere cheese and coarsely ground black pepper

Last night I flew to Brisbane to have an extended weekend with my daughters and parents.

City Hall now contains the Museum of Brisbane. It’s a really nice little museum. I’d happily go again and again. One of the features for now is the exhibit on World Expo 1988 Brisbane.

All in all it’s been a good day.

Now to rate Luke’s restaurant. The meal was fantastic and I would recommend anyone visiting Brisbane to try it out.
The dunny was interesting. The pedestal was solid and sound. The urinal was an older stainless steel model with a sturdy grate. It was big enough for two well proportioned men to stand next to each other without inducing hesitancy. I like a good firm grate to stand on so there is less of a chance of urine spray on the floor. The hand basin was motion detector activated but a little shallow. The hand drying unit was a pseudo air blade. It was pretty pathetic. If you’re going to use an air dryer and try to imitate a Dyson Air Blade, just buy the Dyson. My dunny score is 3.5 out of 5.
The napkin score is pass. Cloth napkins always pass.

So this week it’s back to a five day work week after two Easter associated short weeks. I’m currently nursing a sore ankle so I’m not walking around as much as I would like.

Brisbane high rise and food glorious food

The last few days have been fairly busy and on Thursday and Friday I had to be in Brisbane for an important meeting.

On Wednesday I forgot my lunch and after a frantic morning I was in a café and spied a Chiko roll. I haven’t had one in years. My maternal grandfather‘s brother told me many times when I was young that our family had somehow been involved in the invention of the Chiko roll. At the time they owned a Chinese café at a truck stop in Rocklea in Brisbane. They used to sell these super large spring rolls mostly composed of cabbage and chicken. They sold them as chicken rolls. Mum and her brother have confirmed this story for me. They claim someone got the idea for the Chiko roll from my grandparents chiekn rolls at the Golden Pagoda in Rocklea. The Golden Pagoda was destroyed in the great flood of 1974 and the loss destroyed my grandparents and immediate family. They never really recovered.

Later that afternoon a work mate said she was going out to get some chocolate and I asked her get me some. I love my work mates. They know me. Look at what came back :-)

Check out the size of the block.

That night I didn’t feel that hungry but had some chicken thigh meat thawing (and no I didn’t eat all that chocolate in one sitting).

The chicken burgers were tasty, you can see I used an English muffin for one and a hamburger roll for the other.

The next morning I woke up early for a 0620 AEST flight from Canberra to Brisbane. I like that the Qantas Club has breakfast.

On board the flight I had another breakfast.

I spent Thursday night in my hotel room working. The view of the Brisbane River from the twenty-fifth floor was pretty good.

I went and bought a couple of hot pies and an apple crumble to get me through the night.

In the morning the view was better. I left Brisbane in 1995 to live in Darwin until coming to Canberra in 2007. Brisbane city has certainly grown.

Look at the huge tree. they are amazing. I love them.

I indulged in a Starbucks breakfast of toast and a caramel mocha with cream.

So on the way back to Canberra I spent time chatting with a work mate and eating.

The pork buns here were crap. They are from the Sydney Qantas club and rubbish. You want to see a nice barbecue pork bun go to the Dumpling Inn. Check out the image here.

The soup was a spicy Mexican lentil dish.

On Saturday we went to Costco to buy some food. I hadn’t had lunch. I tried a Costco hot dog. It wasn’t that good.

For afternoon tea we went to Ricardo’s Cafe at Jamison and had a caramel praline mousse.

Last night Bron and I cooked dinner together. I cooked a steak with an onion dijon sauce and Bron cooked the cauliflower blue cheese gratin. The gratin was amazing. I ate two. I wanted more.

Bron cooked a caramel chocolate tart and a lemon tart for dessert. They were out of this world. Bron is amazing.

This morning we went light and had a poached egg before our big lunch.
