Udon noodles tacos, who has ever heard of such a thing? I haven’t. This is my idea of a fusion meal with a difference. Lamb udon noodles tacos combine European, Japanese and Mexican elements with pulled meat from slowly roasted lamb bones, and creamy Udon noodles in a soft flour tortilla.

Recipe
- Lamb bones
- Red wine
- Worcestershire sauce
- BBQ sauce
- Udon noodles
- Flour
- Butter
- Milk
- Cream
- Soft tortillas
- Cayenne chillies
- Jalapeño peppers
- Spring onions
- Fresh cracked black pepper
- Chilli flakes
-
Pre-heat your oven to 120 °C.
-
In a baking tray, lay out the lamb bones and add the BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce and red wine so there is enough to keep the meat moist while slowly cooking.
-
Cover the baking tray with aluminium foil and place it on the oven for three hours.
-
When the meat is ready, remove the tray and while covered allow the meat to cool to room temperature.
-
Pull the meat apart with your fingers and set aside for later.
-
Cook the Udon noodles in boiling water for 8 minutes.
-
Rinse the Udon noodles under cold water and then set aside.
-
Make a roux with the butter and flour and convert it to a white sauce with milk but don't make it too thick yet.
-
Add cream to the white sauce and allow it to thicken.
-
Finely chop the Cayenne chillies, Jalapeño peppers and Spring onions.
-
Warm up a soft flour tortilla in the microwave oven for 30 seconds.
-
Add the Udon noodles to the hot sauce and add in some of the chillies, peppers and Spring onions plus a little of the pulled meat.
-
Prepare the tacos and add some extra meat to the plate.
-
Shoot a photograph.
-
Eat or rather devour the Creamy Udon Noodles Tacos and make some more with the leftover ingredients.
-
Wash the dishes.
-
Write the recipe.

Questions and answers
What inspired me to make this?
I had some lamb bones in the freezer and some old Udon noodles in the pantry. I was looking through some books on my Kindle and noticed Hilah Johnson’s breakfast taco cook book in there.
I thought it would be a good idea to make tacos for dinner while watching Game of Thrones Season 7 on the weekend.
Do I like Game of Thrones?
Hell yeah. What’s not to like about Game of Thrones? Season 7 certainly disappoint.
Why do I watch a whole season in one sitting?
I’m too tight fisted to subscribe to Foxtel and as an official in the Australian Public Service, I’m not prepared to download it illegally given all the attention the government had given to piracy.
I wait until the end of the season and buy it from iTunes.
I also like making an event out of it by cooking something nice while I watch.
I enjoyed quite a bit of food while watching Game of Thrones on the weekend.

Alright my friend, haven’t seen delicious Mangos that cheap up this part of the world…. What the….!!!!! Now…. about this udon noodle tacos… you sure know how to confuse my taste buds…. I’m sitting here thinking now what would that taste like. Gunna have to make it to see. Never seen a taco I didn’t like so methinks this would probably be a keeper.
Thanks, Anna, you need to get some mangoes in you.
I love creamy noodles and I love sandwiches and in my mind, a taco is a Mexican sandwich. So I put it all together. Tonight I made a bacon and instant noodle quesadilla.
Mmm this does sound good! I love udon noodles. The fatter the noodle the better really! 😀
Fat long noodles to absorb flavours and then to slurp up 😃
It just shows, a taco is really a simple sandwich and I can make a sandwich out of anything 😃
!. Had to google udon noodles. Those look so good! 2. I’ve never ever thought of putting anything inside a tortilla shell besides the normal sandwich or taco stuff. I like this idea! 3. Happy Father’s Day!!! Your breakfast was perfect. I’d have eaten one of those, too– 4. Your calf photo is absolutely precious. And I agree, raw milk is NOT a good idea. Unless it is from the mom of the creature’s drinking. 5. I love your cut/straw combo. I have a cup with a plastic straw and i never use it. Those things are a pain to wash. I wonder if metal might be easier to keep clean? 6. No. I’ve not watched GoT. I read part of the first book or maybe more and got completely bogged down. My son told me the tv shows were better (we are both book worms), but to watch it would mean I’d need to not read. Maybe someday. I was a bit surprised when I found it was being made for TV. There is one character in the book–the dragon girl–who learned to please her man in many kinds of ways, when she was 12. I was told she was much older for the series on screen.
7. I LOVE finding your posts in my email. They are a bright spot. Thank you.
I’m a fan of most noodles and to be honest, a lot of the time I can’t tell the difference. The origins of noodles and pasta are interesting with Asians and Europeans claiming one thing or another.
I tend to think of tacos like a good sandwich and a good sandwich can contain anything. I’ve even had a sausage roll and a meat pie in a sandwich (not together mind you).
I really liked my breakfast taco.
Every year some people very sadly, die from consuming raw milk. What’s worse is when it is a baby or child whose parents have irresponsibly fed them raw milk or raw milk products. Thousands get sick every year.
I put my metal straw in the dishwasher. It’s made from stainless steel.
I tried reading the Game of Thrones books but they’re hard going and the TV show is a bit different. If you like nudity and sexual activity the early seasons are rich in bare flesh. The Mother of Dragons certainly gets a lot of exposure and she’s involved with quite a few powerful men.
Thank you, Kris. Likewise, being blogging friends is a great thing.
“Rich in bare flesh.” Laughed out loud!!!
Sounds like a good weekend, Gaz, The fusion tacos look really good – looks light and filling at the same time. I don’t watch much TV or Game of Thrones, but if I do watch a TV series I like to watch it when all the episode are out – one big lazy binge session with indulgent food.
I’d rather have a tub of coconut ice-cream than coconut yoghurt 😀
I love sitting in front of my favourite programs and enjoying them.
I’m about to have some salted caramel ice cream.
I just wish the weekend would go on longer 😃
Hope you enjoyed that salted caramel ice-cream. I can never seem to like salted caramel flavour 😃 There goes Sunday. I think I’ll help myself to some ice-cream too 😃 😃
The weekend goes to quickly Mabel. We need more long weekends 😃👍
Enjoy your ice cream 😋😋😋
We need more holidays to be precise 😃 I’m mixing my ice-cream tonight with strawberry milk 😋😋 Have a good night, Gaz.
Yum, Strawberry milkskae 👍
I am having a strawberry milkshake right now. It would taste better if the weather was 20’C 😀
I see this week we’re in for some cold squalls. Not good for Spring 😱
Strong cold squalls too. So disappointing 😨 I hope this doesn’t mean a colder than usual warmer season ahead 😒
Gee I hope not. It needs to warm up.
