Unlike @bron99 I cannot poach an egg to save myself

Regular readers will know I love eggs. I especially like them for breakfast and I’m a fan of poached eggs, fried eggs, scrambled eggs and omelets. I regularly post images to http://breakfastforwoojm.posterous.com/ which is a Posterous site established by a primary school teacher in NSW with a focus on breakfast. Many of the images I’ve posted have been courtesy of Bron who is an expert egg poacher. I, on the other hand am hopeless. I can fry an egg with the best of them, but my poached eggs are a mess. Last night we were watching Bill Granger’s Bill’s Tasty Weekends and Bill demonstrated an easy method to poach an egg with an additional tip from Bron. It was to simply bring water to the boil, put in a egg ring (Bron’s tip), crack in the egg, turn off the heat and put a lid on.

I tried it this morning.

When I cracked the poached egg, the yolk was nice and runny.

I normally post breakfast images with my Brisbane Broncos mug. They lost to the Melbourne Storm on Friday night, so here is my new mug from my recent meeting in Frederick, MD.

I hope everyone has a great breakfast.

I really work with the best people

I love the people I work with. For readers who follow me on instagram you’ll know that I often post images of treats given to me by my work mates. I have been blessed with macarons, cakes, biscuits, fruit and vegetables from work mates.

Today I received fresh eggs from free range chooks from a work mate’s parents’ backyard. There is not much better than fresh eggs from chooks that are lovingly cared for and fed stuff from your own kitchen as well as the insects and grubs in the garden.

I already had a piece of Scotch fillet in the refrigerator so I thought steak and eggs.

The steak was simply dressed on the board with salt and pepper and then cooked for a couple of minutes on both sides. You can see I like it rare. I cooked the eggs in the butter and fat from the steak fry pan. The eggs tasted divine.

I’m so grateful for the generosity of my work mates as well as their brilliance and doing their job.

Quick hamburger meal after a long week

It’s been a long week with some significant travel. I got back to my apartment with a bag of wet clothes that needed to be washed. I also had two blown light bulbs in my bedroom that needed replacing. I wanted something quick and easy to cook and eat.

Normally a hamburger should have lettuce, beetroot, pineapple, a fried egg, tomato and cucumber.

This one just had meat and cheese with some barbecue sauce.

My first Mavi breakfast wrap experience

This morning Bron asked me to breakfast at Mavi in Phillip. The breakfast wrap comes as a coffee deal for $9.50. Not a bad breakfast.

Every breakfast should start with coffee

Not the greatest coffee. It tasted okay but it was not hot so it felt very ‘milky’.

This is a large wrap. It's a full dinner plate there.

No, I didn’t have two, although I reckon I could knock off two.

In my hand. Look at the size of it.

The smell of the bacon and egg was so powerful :-)

A close up of the open end.

The wrap contains mushrooms, bacon, fried egg and hash brown potato. I reckon a nice pork sausage or some black pudding would be nice too.

The aftermath. I'm a messy eater.

Mind you there was nothing left over and very little barbecue sauce spillage.

My Hawaiian Schnitzel with ham and pineapple added.

The chips were amazing. It’s a pity I went to a meeting before I could finish the schnitzel. Cold schnitzel isn’t that tasty.

A two meal day

This morning we met friends at Pizzazz Café for brunch. I had sausages, an egg, spinach and mushrooms.
For dinner we had roast lamb, Aubergine, pumpkin, parsnip and broccoli.
Dessert was a wonderful creme brûlée and mango.

Breakfast of champions in Mexico City

This was good after a big meal last night!

A fried egg easy over with soft yolk (yes I know I’m taking a risk), bacon, beef tenderloin with a spicy Mexican sauce, refried beans, and a hamburger patty (and coffee). Spicy savoury delights to keep me going until lunch time.

Back at work

It was good to get back to work today. Last week, even though I’d managed a good proportion of the e-mail that had to be done, I still had a huge number in my in-box. Then there was the in-tray in the office.Less said about that the better.

Notwithstanding the rest I needed, I’d watched as much day time television that is safe for any human. It wasn’t so much the content of programs like The Circle, it was the endless advertisements for cleaning products and clothing that could only be purchased by telephone or on-line that made me desperately want to return to work.

To give me energy today I had an egg on a toasted English muffin.

Tonight I got home later than I’d hoped so quickly baked some salmon.

Today’s food diary

Today I managed to stay near my calorie ceiling.

Breakfast was a single egg.

Then this morning at work a new work mate brought in macaroons her son made. They were delicious.

For lunch I had a really nice chicken breast, lettuce, aioli and avocado toasted sandwich.

Tonight I had a small rack of lamb (180 g) and some stir fried vegetables (200 g).

I hope to sleep well tonight.
