Today is the second time I’ve been to Smoque Woden in as many weeks for work Christmas lunches. This relatively new restaurant is an offshoot of Smoque in Civic and has opened in the new Abode Restaurant on Bowes Street in Phillip.
Both times I’ve eaten the same thing, viz., a pulled pork protein plate and a side of potato gems with sour cream and bacon bits.
Today as I ate the pulled pork I did think of Lara Bingle albeit briefly and then I changed my thoughts to pancakes at 63 Racecourse Road.
The pulled pork protein plate at Smoque Woden is pretty good. The meat is tender and juicy. The flavours are strong but not too salty. I also like a pickle although I’m not a huge fan of corn bread. I noticed some of my friends from today’s lunch had never tried corn bread and weren’t impressed.
The potato gems were pretty good. They were well cooked and not under or over cooked.
It wouldn’t be a work Christmas lunch without bon bons and Christmas jokes and toys
Hehe I’m so curious about the Lara Bingle reference. Or do I not want to know? 😛
It’s nothing inappropriate Lorraine, well not that inappropriate. I explain it in https://yummylummy.com/2014/12/17/food/63-racecourse-road/ 🙂
There are no photographs of Lara Bingle (clothed or unclothed involved) 😉
I LOVE potato gems! But pity a lot of the ones I have eaten in Melbourne you can tell they are the ones you buy from Woolies…tasty, nonetheless.
I love them Mabel. These were cooked well. Sour cream and bacon bits made them better 🙂
Love on the map how the drain is called Yarralumla Creek!
I will be in Canberra over Christmas so I may get the opportunity to try this restaurant. I like the sound of what’s on offer.
At lunch time at the moment it is quite noisy inside. With my hearing deficit it’s a problem. Last week I was outside in the shade and it was much better. I hope you enjoy it.
If you’re in Canberra between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, I bet it’s quiet with most of the public servants being on leave.
