Butter or dip? It’s not a meaning of life question, but what would you prefer on a sandwich?
Butter I hear you scream. Well I went with dip!
For lunch today I made a sandwich with a piece of chicken schnitzel. Normally I’d add butter to the bread but today instead of butter I went with dip. So butter or dip? I went with dip.
Couldn’t you use butter and dip?
I support I could have gone with both but really that is not necessary. As my girth increases, I really need to stop doubling up on things.
What went into the sandwich?
I bought a fresh bread roll from Coles as well as one of those heart shaped pieces of chicken schnitzel (I described this a few posts ago). I also had a premade spring onion dip as well as some grated Coon cheese. The leafy green vegetable you can see in the photographs is kale. Yeah I know, it’s trendy and hipster. If you know me well, you know I’m neither trendy nor hipster. I like the taste of kale. See what I don’t like about kale by watching the video.
How did it taste?
It was a pretty good sandwich. Please try making one yourself and letting me know what you think.
A new venture
I’ve started a podcast. It’s called Medical Fun Facts. You can check it out at my other medicine related blog.
The Yummy Lummy YouTube channel
If you like watching YouTube food videos, please check out my YouTube channel. The videos are all fairly brief and while there isn’t a lot of talk about butter, I do have some yummy food on the channel. I also try to inject a little humour. Let me know what you think and how I can improve it.
I don’t know which I prefer, but I do know that i really want a sandwich now.
Sandwiches are always good and it’s always a good time for a sandwich I reckon.
Here in Germany ppl put butter on every sandwich. But our sandwiches are almost always open faced! It’s weird. 😬
I don’t mind open sandwiches if there is grilled cheese 😋
I’ll have to take a picture to show you! They usually have lots of toppings, like some sort of salad, sometimes a boiled egg. We eat salted raw ground beef here, too. It’s called Hackepeter.
Mmm… The sandwiches sound good. The salted raw beef sounds interesting too. Germans really like stuff like that I’ve noticed.
I’m sorry, did I write raw beef? It’s raw pork actually. I’m just really tired.
Yeah we eat a lot of raw food here. Raw salmon is popular, too. Even though those same ppl won’t touch sushi! 😂
Haha, I live raw fish. Not sure about raw pork. Sleep well my friend 😴😴😴
We use either on a sandwich (and sometimes both!) but dips are my favourite because they add so much flavour. It depends on the other sandwich fillings really.
Very true on both counts Lorraine. I also like used the flavoured cream cheeses too 😋
Butter – and by that I don’t mean the manufactured substitute ‘margarine’. I love the stuff.I could easi;ly use it as my sandwich filling 🙂 I am guilty of using both butter and dips such as spring onion, corn relish and sundried tomato varieties. Tasty!
If I write butter, I mean stuff from a cow, that floats to the surface and is churned. Toast with just butter is perfectly fine. Fresh bread and butter too. My favourite sandwich though is freshly cooked corned beef from the pressure cooker. I take the layer of silverside fat and put it between two pieces of fresh white bread with liberal lashings of butter.
I have had egg dip on fresh bread before; making a sandwich. Delicious!!
Mmm… sounds delicious. I love eggy things like that.
As someone who eats a huge amount of butter, I have to say that it’s always my go to!
I’ve actually never thought about using dip with sandwiches. But it makes sense – in a sense dip is like mayonnaise or tomato or BBQ sauce some of us like to put on sandwiches. I like garlic aioli with mine, but the spring onion dip sounds great too. Sounds zingy. Never enough cheese, but you know, watch that cheese intake, Gaz 😉
Thanks Mabel, I’m a big fan of garlic aioli as a butter substitute. Yes, cheese, my kryptonite. I can never say no. I even added it to a kale salad I made tonight. Mind you, that salad had bacon and duck fat potato 😂
Haha, garlic aioli your kryptonite 😀 I actually favour it over mayonnaise and it really has more zing to it. Gaz, portion control over that back and duck fat potato. Portion control 😀
Yes, I’d forgotten about portion control this weekend. I must get back to it 😃
