Black swan

Black swan

The black swan is meant to be rare

Yet here in Australia they are common.

A few years back I was at a meeting in New Mexico and heard an American speaker use the term ‘black swan event’ and from the context it sounded like he meant they were events that had a very low likelihood of ever happening. I didn’t quite understand so I asked the question what did he mean. He said black swans were regarded as a rarity, an unlikely event. When he heard my accent he realised my confusion.

Talking about black swan events is an error if there are Australians in the audience. It’s similar to when people from the Northern Hemisphere refer to seasons for meeting dates and when I ask for clarification there is the realisation that the seasons are reversed for the Southern Hemisphere.

So after a bacon, egg and tasty Coon cheese fried bread sandwich I went for a walk around the middle loop of Lake Burly Griffin.

Pumpkin soup with celeriac

Bacon is always a good way to start Sunday in Canberra

Okay, I’ll get to the pumpkin soup recipe towards the bottom of this post so if that’s what you’re after, go down.

Gee it was cold this morning. I’m hoping this cold spell finishes soon.

For lunch I had a tin of fried fish and black beans

Sunday lunch. Fried fish and black beans.

I love this with rice. I remember as a boy eating this with my Dad. I think my middle brother Dr47 liked it but my youngest brother Mr43 didn’t. I think Mum was a little indifferent but she’d eat it if Dad wanted it. I posted this photograph to Instagram and Twitter and received some interesting responses. My Asian friends were positive in their comments.

During the afternoon I did some work, watched Star Trek and Farscape and did some ironing. I also watched Poultrygeist Night of the chicken dead. It’s on a par with Sharknado

For dinner I made a pumpkin soup with celeriac

Nutella Sandwich at Ricardo’s Cafe Jamison Plaza

This Nutella Sandwich was awesome

I met Bron and Max at Ricardo’s Cafe today for some morning tea. I incorporated a walk around Belconnen at the same time.

The Nutella sandwich has salted caramel ganache in between to macaron shells. In the middle is a Nutella mousse. It was delicious. I also had a flat white which was a really nice coffee today.
