Easy 5 minute steak meal

It rained today so my plan to go for a walk didn’t eventuate. I’ve put on so much weight, I need to exercise and eat less. Well after last night I really need to eat less.

I made a light and easy steak dinner. The steak was a Scotch rib fillet that was about 1 cm thick and it had a nice amount of deckle around the lean fillet.

I left the steak out on the bench for 2 hours to let it get to room temperature and to reduce the moisture content.

I needed some fried bread as a base for the steak. The steak always tastes good with fried bread. Frying bread in real butter is also important.

I like sweet potato. I cooked this with the steak. In the finished product you can see the char marks

I like to cook my steak rare. I use the Heston Blumenthal method. I have a timer set for 5 minutes and the frying pan set to high. I turn the steak every 20 seconds. I then let it rest for at least 5 minutes. The resting is the most important part.

So do you like to eat a quick and easy minute steak?

This was pretty easy to make and was easy to clean up afterwards. You can also make a hamburger in a bread roll and add condiments like mustard, barbecue sauce or even tomato sauce.

Delicious Chicken Maryland recipe

Looking at the Yummy Lummy statistics is fascinating. The most common search term to get to Yummy Lummy is Chicken Maryland.

I’m conscious that just because a page is viewed frequently, it doesn’t mean it’s a popular page. A lot of people get to Yummy Lummy because they search for Chicken Maryland but from what I can see very few people feel strongly enough to share it via social media and no one comments. The most viewed post seems to be the most innocuous.

It’s been a while since I did a Chicken Maryland post so here is another version. I hope you enjoy it. Please feel free to leave a comment.

French toast with bacon and maple syrup

I think bacon and maple syrup go hand in hand like waffles and ice cream

What can be simpler than beating some eggs with some cream. I add a pinch of salt and some brown sugar to the mix before soaking my bread. Ideally I would have used a thick slice of brioche but all I had this morning was some Helga’s pumpkin seed bread. Perhaps not the best for French toast but hey I’m not complaining.

The streaky bacon was just cooked in the bench top oven. When the toast was ready in the frying pan I added the bacon and poured a generous amount of maple syrup on the bacon. I like a bit of ground cinnamon too.

How to make a bacon and egg pie

It looks pretty rough but this bacon and egg pie tasted good.

Before I went on my driving holiday (aka vanilla slice crawl) I shared a number of posts based on some sheets of puff pastry I bought. Check out the links below 🙂

I had one sheet left which I thought I may as well use.
